So maybe I will commit to buyijng a new laptop soon.

Having "motherhood" angstm however. Found this Cat recently - turns out she is Entire!!! This means I have to pay for desexing (there goes some of my computer) - and deal with my own "Little Cat Diaries" ..... I have never really had an unspayed female in my life ....and this is Annoying!!!! She is being locked in the Bathroom at night. Me forced to come to Work because a sickie would be intolerable.

And the Boy Cat (neutered) fancies himself as Lothario!!! He tries, and tries, and tries, but it's like watching an old couple who forgot to take their Viagra....at least she's getting some attention!!!

This poem was originally written for the first Sorry Day in May, 1998. As part of my MA in Aboriginal studies, I did a lot of reading and wrote a lot of essays on the history of occupation of Australia by Britain and the subsequent impacts on its inhabitants. I guess it was a real eye and heart opener and I feel I want to somehow make sure people understand the reasons why this Sorry is so important.

Colonisation of lands has been going on for thousands of years – but one concern I have is that in our modern society – we continue to permit and maintain racist constructs so that the invader benefits to the detriment of the Indigenous. Should this attitude be permitted to continue? I think not…..I would like to Thank the Incumbent PM and his Cabinet for having the courage to raise this issue again…and give me a chance to bring this back into the Light.

I dedicate this to all the Aboriginal people I have met in my travels and to their families, past present and future.

(So, unfortunately I have lost the original text …..so I rewrote and I think I like it better now.)

My mother never told me

They came and stole your land,

My mother never told me

They used chains to bind your hand,

My mother never told me

And it is to my disgrace -

My mother never to me

They told lies to your face.

You see my mother said -

She said, she never knew,

Of murder, poison flour and

stealing children, too.

And now my mothers crying,

My country’s crying too -

This wide brown land is crying,

at atrocities against you

And now I know - it’s up to me,

To try and heal this rift.

To hold your brown hand in mine

Would be a special gift.

Together we can walk and talk,

Along this bumpy way -

And you can one day can call me Friend,

One Sunny Aussie Day.

Help!!! All my friends are turning 40 and I need party dress ideas.......just being told to "come in garb because it's a Shrek party" doesnae help me much...Should I go in 12th, 13th? or 15th Century gar?  I did a Google and found that McCall's non period costume ideas seem to fit best. It's been a while since I made my wedding dress and I am sure it won't fit....maybe the time has come to rip it up and turn it into something useful. Please let me know your take on whatever the "females" in Shrek are wearing....btw I am not painting my face green. I will leave that the host and hostess. BTW the (rather lovely) couple in question have three kids, all of whom are in service to the dream...I guess the party is really for them - or is it?

Buenos,

Huzzah - after much consultation with Cat Angels, the boy is home. Which is a relief...but, I went over to see the girl...and the cop advised...and she was SO RUDE!!!! You would think I was the one causing the nuisance!!! I reckon a spoilt Bratney whose a daddy's girl.....Hmmmph. What is she Thinking?? Not much obviously. Thanks for you concern guys..  As part of my recovery, I went and saw Death at a Funeral. Liked it - some definately hilarious moments. Unlike the Librarians...which I shall be avoiding this week but I won't be avoiding the gym. Want is it about country life and sitting in cars for too long. Roll on the Interview results. At least there are buses in Canberra.

GAWD!!!!! I think I may have neighbour issues. Young 23 year old with voice like a harpie has bought property next door. She's nice enough and likes the cat, but, Iast night got really squiffy and decided to pump up the volume at 10pm!!!! Man - I thought I was living in a disco!!!, so I called for advice from nice men in blue....but neighbour got "upset" because she thought she "had a good relationship"  with me. Oh, really I have spoken to her what ! 3 times? and have actually been holding back asking about the music...but last night really was bad. Apparently I was meant to go over in my PJ's and she with her drunken friends and ask her to turn it down!!!

WEll I am sorry, but just I am nice to you doesn't mean I will put up with unacceptable behaviour that lasted till midnight. Anyways, the key reason for this rant is that Jardy, got out and has not turned up for his breakfast. I went to his other - mouse invested demolishiion job house..but no - not there. Please ask the Goddess to make sure he comes home soon. I hope I don't have a psycho on my hands!!! So much for having a quiet weekend at home!!!

At least I have made a decision to probably move from that place and hang at a friends around the corner till I either go to Canberra or , find something better (read quieter and with a loo that works properly) - tis a shame because it's a nice place.

Yay! I head to Sydney this weekend and can hardly wait. I had something to say the other day, but tis gone. I think I am just in party mode. Now tis time to work - which is interesting because I feel I am making inroads and sudddenly feel the urge to stay here for a while and tell everyone about my Film Festival weekend.

Went south to catch MIFF and saw "Away from Her" - My second love - Canadian scenery - and comments about Iceland and Nordic verse, oh of course - the tragedy of Alzheimers. Two of the most beautiful "older women" on the screen. Julie Christie and Olympia Dukakis - 5 stars from me - go see.  On Saturday, was a bit of lounge lizard in the afternoon and watched "Perfume: the story of a murderer" - set in 17th France - about a serial killer - quite lush and sort of sexy. 4 stars. My local film soc showed - "The triplets of Belleville" on Friday night. What crap!! Man! I hated it. Everyone else loved it. It was the eating tadpoles scene that did it for me. I obviously am not a fan of "French" - weird. Having said that - from a "technical perspective" - witty, clever, dry and a bit sad. I will try and get the Danish one on a DVD - or maybe when I am in Sydney this weekend.

Looking forward to "Death at a Funeral" at this point in time - not mine of course. The movie. Oh yes, I need to show 10 mins of "my favourite film" for next months Film Soc - I am thinking Strictly Ballroom, or the Castle....

Election 2007: The numbers for women don't add up

Women continue to be discriminated against by some male legislators according to Senator Lyn Allison, the only female leader of a federal political party, and the 2007 election will present a crucial opportunity to change the distorted make-up of the male dominated Federal Parliament.

'Women are discriminated against on a multitude of levels', Senator Allison said today.

'Whether it be Bill Heffernan accusing Julia Gillard of being ‘deliberately barren’ or issues relating to childcare, paid maternity leave and reproductive health being sidelined, it is critical that the population realises the battles that are still being fought for women and how important it is to have a Parliament which is more representative of the actual make-up of the Australian population.'

Senator Lyn Allison, Senator Natasha Stott Despoja and SA Lead Senate candidate Ruth Russell recently joined forces to call for Australian women to vote for Democrats women this election.

I have been playing with my pics....here is the cat.

elphinqueen

Well, it was a beautiful cool morning this morning, so I went to the bank so I can pay Trusty Cleaner and sometime Cat sitter – only to return - to discover that my “pretty grey cat” has been visiting my New Young and Pretty Neighbour!!!! Well, guess what!!! she can feed him when I go away next week (for nada). Good on him, he is such a smooze. He has this habit of trying to wake me up by sitting on me – that doesnae work, purring at me, no – try jumping over my head – he sits on me again…Finally, lured by the call of nature (and I don’t mean the birds…) I end up caving into his wishes. Geez – boys hey!!!

So I am up early, cleaning the house for the cleaner and musing on the sad news this week. Firstly, Afghanistan. I know a young soldier over there. It’s is second tour after Timor last year. He was so keen to go. I think I saw him on the news regarding the death of the Trooper. I do wonder why our respective governments feel it is so necessary – then I see a ABC program on how badly women are treated by the Taliban ….Mmmmmmm – is there more to this than meets the eye?? Other sad news re friend whose IVF induced pregnancy is no more. But I guess I can’t help wondering that if we stuck to natural cycles – (ie had our kiddlings when we are meant to – age 18 – 25) there wouldn’t be so much distress and focus on this apparent “void” in ones life. She's not the first one to have to "make decision" because of  ?natural abnormalities. Actually, I and some friends have survived the biological time bomb and are quite relieved, ta.

I guess my biggest gripe is the knowledge that climate change is impacting on our natural systems and if we continue to eroding the soil, biodiversity and water supplies that sustain us, by aiming to produce and feed the trillions…there won’t be much for those to in the future anyways. I have thought long on this…..agriculture was invented in the Middle East, perfected in Medieval Europe and has come full circle in the driest continent in the land – Awful-stralia – yet, even tho’ we’ve been “losing crops” left right and centre, the $A and economy is stronger than ever…..

Yes, this conversation is connected…..Two years ago it was the Year of Desertification, or something..so it looks as if Afghanistan – here come…whether we like or not!!!!!
